VSS – various error messages, several fixes we apply all at once to cover all bases

1. fully update your server, reboot
2. Run the sharepoint configuration wizard from start –> programs –> sharepoint –> reboot
3. run this batch file to register and fix certain DLL’s
4. Open an Administrative command prompt.
   Change directory to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN
   Run PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures
5. stop SQL server VSS writer
6. Try backup after all of this, or after each fix to see if it works
